The 11th International Scientific and Practical Conference “Museums and Restoration in the Context of Cultural Heritage Preservation: Current Challenges of the Present” has started at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra National Reserve. Restorers, museum professionals, and scientists from Ukraine, Great Britain, Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia, and Kazakhstan are presenting their research and practical experience.
The program includes dozens of reports on working with museum collections and individual monuments. Participants share the results of the restoration and attribution of paintings, icons, old prints, textiles, and other objects, and talk about preventive conservation and protection of cultural heritage in times of war.
Many of the reports are directly related to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Specialists of the National Reserve present new attributions of works of graphic art and iconography, talk about the research of early medieval bas-reliefs, works of the Kyiv goldsmith Grigory Chyzhevsky, and pilgrimage relics from the Reserve’s collection.
Separate performances are dedicated to monuments that the Lavra restorers worked on. Among them are the 17th-century “Triod of Flowers” from the collection of the National Historical and Cultural Reserve “Hetman’s Capital”, the icon-painting “The Betrothal of Saint Catherine” and the icon “The Virgin and Child” from the collection of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
During the opening of the conference, the catalog of the exhibition “Christ is Risen” was also presented.
The conference is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve.
